What it is
Routine women's health care is mostly about picking things up early, while they are simple to deal with. What is appropriate depends on age, family history and whether you are planning a pregnancy. A consultation is also the place to raise contraception, period problems, menopause symptoms or anything you would rather not type into a search bar.
What to look for
Periods that are much heavier, more painful or more irregular than usual for you
Bleeding between periods or after intercourse
Pelvic pain, unusual discharge, or a breast lump or skin change
Hot flushes, sleep disruption or mood changes around midlife
Sensible things to do at home
- Get to know what is normal for your own breasts and cycle
- Keep a simple record of cycle dates and symptoms before your appointment
- Continue routine screening even when you feel completely well
When to see us
- For a cervical screening (Pap smear) as recommended for your age
- Any new breast lump, skin dimpling or nipple change
- Bleeding after menopause
- To discuss contraception, fertility, pregnancy planning or menopause
